The A/D and D/A products benefit from having both functions on one module increasing the board density and features and taking up less space in a system chassis. An A/D (analog-to-digital) converter, frequently abbreviated as ADC, accepts an analog voltage at the input and produces a digital representation of that voltage at the output that’s called a “sample”. The two primary characteristics of A/Ds are the rate of conversion or sampling rate, expressed in samples per second, and the accuracy of each digital sample expressed as the number of binary bits or decimal digits per sample. D/A (digital-to-analog) converters serve as the outputs for many multi-channel systems. The analog signals are AC coupled connecting to SMA connectors on the front panel.
The very latest high-resolution A/D and D/A conversion technology enables analog signal input and output directly to the FPGA for processing. The processing resources provided by the on-board Xilinx Virtex FPGA can be used to implement complex algorithms such as FFTs, digital down conversion and filtering in real-time. You can easily configure a DACS to meet your needs for monitoring and control. The DACS is set up to handle many different digital/analog signal inputs/outputs.
